The old Flash game lives again.

An unfinished zombie game became the starting point for a playable browser remake, with two survivors at its center.

Gruge — The Invasion started as a Flash game made a long time ago. It was built quickly, never fully finished, and eventually became difficult to open in the original tools. The remake starts with that existing game and the idea behind it.

Gruge and Vicki running through B-more, pursued by infected, with Vicki in her red dress and holding a pistol.
The two survivors remain the center of the game.

Bring back the idea

The original story placed Gruge in a zombie apocalypse, protecting the woman running ahead of him. The remake keeps the pair together but gives Vicki a more active role: she is a playable survivor, with her own identity and combat poses.

Solo players can switch between them. The other survivor follows and helps fight. Local co-op lets two people control the pair separately, using keyboard controls or controllers that the browser can recognize.

Redraw the game around its own style

The old artwork provides a starting point for the look. The remake uses new painted comic and anime-inspired artwork, with complete ImageGen character poses and a detailed street environment. Gruge keeps his rugged silhouette. Vicki’s red mini dress and high heels follow the original vision for her character.

The title illustration gives the pair room to be seen. Inside the game, routine menus are available through Pause, leaving the action in the game window. The browser does not need to enter fullscreen to play.

A first route you can actually play

The current developer build includes the first mission through The Streets of B-more: movement, jumping, directional shooting, crouching, grenades, armed infected, checkpoints, and a shared extraction goal. The B-more map and Gun Shop are part of that build.

This is an ongoing remake, not a claim that every district is finished. The developer journal records concrete changes as the game comes back to life—from the artwork and animation to the way the two survivors move through the city together.
